Fun Stuff

Sometimes I just can't believe how long it has been since I updated the blog.

So, I am going to start by letting everyone know that a couple of weeks ago, Tyler was diagnosed with ADHD. Yet another thing to handle, but as they say, god/the universe/whatever only gives you what you can handle. But, let me just say.. I've got everything I can handle! When can I get a free ticket, get out of jail card..something? :) I did feel sorry for myself and had my pitty party, but a few days later, I was over it and was ready to tackle it! No, anyway, it isn't uncommon for kidos with Autism to get this diagnosis, but it hard to treat because of the Autism. So, they did recommend us putting him on some meds to help with the lack of focus and attention. Being I am not a big medicine person, this is hard. But, Robert and I talked along with mommy-in-law and we all think that we should try it. We have tried other things (that aren't even medically proven to work) with no results. So, I decided I couldn't go without trying this, if this could be the one thing that helps him. Well, guess what? We have noticed several good things. He seems to be more aware of his surroundings and other kidos. His teacher noticed an increase in work time, and here at home we are noticing he has dramatically reduced the amount of t.v. he watches and is bringing out toys he hasn't played with in I don't even know how long. Just the other day he came to me and said "let's dance" because Hi-5 was coming on and he loves the song! I just about lost it, well, actually I did loose it, we danced out asses off!

Hippo (horse) therapy is going great, he seems to be enjoying it, asking to go over hills and "go that way". No crying around the chickens at the farm last week, and just startes laughing uncontrollably.

We moved speech out of the house and back into the center. Debbie is our new speech therapist and she seems super great. She did observe that we need to back up a bit and get the language he does have functunal. More words don't necessarly mean a good thing if they aren't functunal. So, we are going to start working on some of those things.

Last Monday Emily received a principals award at school. For the last several months the school has been working on character building. So, when a student makes good choices and shows good character, they get an award during Monday assembly. Her award was for being Caring and Considerate. That's my girl! Great job Emily!

A couple of weeks ago, we all drove to CA to help Joe celebrate his big 60th birthday! We drove on Friday morning to make the most of it. Friday night, just the adults went to dinner and ate at the Elephant Bar. It was such a nice time. We all laughed that we hadn't done that (just an adult dinner out) since before Emily was born. 7 flippin' years! WOW! So, we said now that the kids are older, we for sure need to start doing it more often. Saturday Robert, Joe and Tommy went to play some golf and then Saturday night we had some yummy Cuban food and cake with the kids. Great weekend!

Friday the 12th, Emily and daddy went on their annual date to the Daddy/Daughter Dance. They had so much fun and she was beside herself excited about having a date with daddy, seeing her friends and of course, wearing her beautiful new dress. It was alot of fun for her this year she saw alot of her friends from school and Daisy's as well. It is such a great tradition to do this every year, this is the 4th year now, and I don't see then stopping anytime soon. LOL What a fun night.

So, what else? Other than all that going on, I finally went to the Dr. She put me on some anti-anxiety meds, so I am really optimistic they will work. She also gave me something to help me sleep and let me just say, I have been sleeping sooooo good this last week. I hope everything starts to fall into place.

I started a boot camp type class at the gym a few weeks ago, and have been really enjoying it. It is for sure a love/hate thing. It kicks my ass, but I keep going back. The instuctor is tough but motivating at the same time. (i did 12 boy push ups today!!!) I swear she is realated to Jillian on biggest loser! LOL. This is my thrid week, and I have seen many people leaving the class to throw up! It's that intense! Just this morning a guy ran to the trash can to throw up! She sat down with me the other day to discuss my nutrition and gave me some great guidelines. I am sure motivated right now, and really hopes it works this time. Having someone to answer my questions and to really push me, might be just what I needed. She made me promise to NOT weigh myself for two weeks..so it's been killing me, but I haven't. We shall see, keep your fingers crossed this is it, because if it's not...I am done! I was suppose to run that 1/2 marathon on Sunday, but after talking with her, she said I wasn't ready. (luckily i was able to sell my bib number :) I mean I could have probably done it, but I might have injured myself. And really the point of me running a 1/2 is to be conditioned, fit, stronger and thinner, and I am not there yet. I did sign up for the San Diego Rock n' Roll 1/2 on June 6th tho, and she is confident with the proper training, diet and workout plan I will be more than ready to kick some serious ass in San Diego! Bring it on Baby!

Welp, my fingers are hurting now, so I'm gonna go.

Loves and Hugs XOXOXOX

Terri & Co.
